Geophysical Earth Resistance Survey

Venue.  Sawtry Abbey, Sawtry.

Dates.  28 - 31 Mar 25.

Participation.  All members of the Sawtry and JigSaw Cambridgeshire communities.

Visitors.  The site will be open to visitors on an ad hoc basis.

Survey Aims and Strategy.  The objective of this survey is to determine as far as reasonably possible the presence/absence, location, nature, extent, and significance of any surviving archaeological deposits within the area; particularly west and south of the cloistral complex, and to survey the cloistral complex itself at a higher sampling density.

Opportunities.  Those with previous experience in geophysical survey will have the opportunity to gain further experience in conducting a survey with the RM85 Resistance Meter System and PA20 Probe Array assembly.  Those with no previous experience, and those who wish a refresher, will be provided with the rudimentary of geophysical surveys, an overview of the data handling software and use of survey equipment.

COVID-19.  COVID-19 safe measures and distancing will be practiced in keeping with government guidelines when conducting geophysical survey.
