Post Excavation Finds Processing

Venue.  Old School Hall, Green End Road, Sawtry.

Dates.  24 - 27 April 2026.

Participation.  This is a community archaeology event that is open to all members of Sawtry History Society and the Sawtry, Alconburys and JigSaw Cambridgeshire communities.

Visitors.  The site will be open to visitors on an ad hoc basis.

Aims and Strategy.  SHS have accumulated numerous finds assemblages from its excavations over the years.  The archaeological value of these assemblages is derived from their analysis, the first stage of which is for finds to be cleaned and then recorded.

Opportunities.  This event will give volunteers with post excavation finds processing experience the opportunity to develop their processing and analysis skills and techniques.

This event will give volunteers with no post excavation finds processing experience the opportunity to learn the principles of basic archaeological post excavation finds processing and analysis skills and techniques.

This event will also offer an opportunity for volunteers and visitors to experience a tangible interaction with items of their local and neighbouring heritage spanning several historical periods.
